The Red Flag Campaign is held across the nation on college campuses to draw attention to the warning signs of dating violence and sexual assault. Based on the estimation that 1 in 5 college students will experience sexual assault or dating violence, it is integral for members of the community to be able to recognize the characteristics of unhealthy relationships.
The Panhellenic Assocation is sponsoring a campaign at U-M which will consist of 1000 red flags (think snow/yard flags) spread throughout the Diag, each with a unique warning sign of dating violence or sexual assault written on them. We invite members of our campus and community to join us in sharing their warning signs, whether they be from personal experience or the experiences of others.
A tabling event will occur on Monday, October 11, 2021 and Wednesday October 13, 2021 in the Diag, but the display will be up for the entire week (October 11th-15th). In addition to this, there is a social media campaign on Instagram @ppesvee, which will include posts and action items for community members to share and engage with.
The campaign aligns perfectly with the mission of Panhellenic Peer Educators - Sexual Violence Education and Empowerment branch (PPE-SVEE). As an organization sitting at the intersection of the Panhellenic Association and SAPAC, PPE-SVEE strives to cultivate a safe and informed community with regards to preventing sexual violence. Through educational programming, bystander intervention training, and biweekly events such as trivia and movie screenings, the group prepares members of the Panhellenic community to deal with the unfortunate ubiquity of sexual violence. In addition to serving as confidential resources for victims of sexual assault that may exist within our chapters, members participate in fundraising and community outreach events such as our inagural Red Flag Campaign.
