Tell us about yourself and your current involvement in Fraternity & Sorority Life.
My name is Kourtney Wright, and I currently serve as the Partnerships and Outreach Chair of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated., Gamma Delta Chapter. I previously served as the chapter’s 2nd Vice President and Community Service Chair during the 2024–2025 term. In addition to my chapter involvement, I have been working as an Office Assistant in the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life since 2025.
How did you get involved in your sorority?
I became involved in Zeta Phi Beta because I wanted to find a community where I could grow and connect with like-minded women who share similar values. I was especially drawn to the sorority’s principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood, as these ideals continue to push me to excel academically, professionally, and personally. I was also inspired by the genuine sisterly bonds my mother formed with her sorority sisters as a member of Zeta Phi Beta, which motivated me to become part of such a welcoming and supportive community.
What inspired you to pursue leadership within your chapter?
I was motivated to pursue leadership roles because I wanted to actively contribute to the organization’s meaningful work and commitment to serving the community. I had a vision for several community and service initiatives, and leadership positions gave me the opportunity to bring those ideas to life. It has been incredibly rewarding to see some of these initiatives come to fruition, and I’m excited to see them continue within the chapter and make a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
Who has supported you along the way?
The mentorship and guidance I’ve received from alumni and Fraternity & Sorority Life stakeholders has been invaluable. I’ve appreciated learning from their experiences and applying those lessons as I navigate my chapter responsibilities and personal growth. My graduate advisors have also played a major role in guiding me into leadership positions and have been some of the strongest support systems throughout my journey.
What’s next for you?
I am currently a 4+1 master’s student at the University of Michigan working toward my Master of Social Work. After graduating, I hope to pursue a career in sports social work, where I can uplift, advocate for, and support athletes in their overall well-being and personal and professional endeavors. My experience working in the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life has also strengthened my passion for building interpersonal relationships and supporting diverse communities.
What would you say to someone considering becoming an FSL stakeholder?
Fraternity and Sorority Life is built on a foundation of lifelong connections, leadership development, and a shared desire to create positive change in our communities. FSL brings together students from diverse backgrounds and provides opportunities to expand leadership skills, learn from one another, and build a sense of belonging. Stakeholders play a vital role in this process by supporting and mentoring students, helping them grow, succeed, and develop transferable skills that will serve them long after graduation.
Anything you’d like to add?
My sorority experience has had a tremendous impact on my personal growth. I’ve learned how to hold myself accountable in the work that I do, adapt to situations that don’t always go as planned, and develop strong collaboration and communication skills. These experiences have pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and cultivate confidence in every room I enter. As an alumna, I hope to continue supporting and guiding future fraternity and sorority members by serving as a resource and mentor for those navigating their own leadership journeys.
