Support FSL’s CBFO Visibility Initiatives For Giving Blueday, U-M’s Annual Day of Giving

As we look towards Giving Blueday, the University of Michigan's annual day of giving, we have a unique opportunity to shape the future of Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) on our campus. Our culturally based fraternities and sororities (CBFOs), operating under the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), are essential to the diverse tapestry of our FSL community.

For nearly 180 years, the fraternity and sorority experience at U-M has evolved, with our CBFOs bringing vital perspectives and experiences to our campus since their inception. However, the smaller size of these groups has led to challenges in gaining the same level of visibility as their IFC and Panhel counterparts, a visibility closely tied to the traditional concept of fraternity and sorority housing.

Our CBFOs do not operate residential chapter facilities, which has impacted their presence and exacerbated feelings of invisibility among students of color at U-M. This Giving Blueday, we're focusing on initiatives that bolster the visibility and support the growth of these dynamic groups within our community.

The FSL team is committed to collaborating with our four councils—the IFC, Panhel, MGC, and NPHC—and their affiliated organizations. We assist with recruitment, event planning, educational programming, social engagements, and philanthropic activities. Our collective aim is to nurture an environment where all members can thrive personally, academically, and as leaders who embody integrity and inclusive values.

Support from alumni, family, and friends on Giving Blueday will be pivotal in enhancing the visibility of CBFOs. Your gifts will directly fuel programs and resources that address the unique needs of these organizations, ensuring they are seen and celebrated for their contributions to U-M's storied FSL history.

Encourage equitable experiences across all sectors of FSL by contributing to our CBFO Visibility Initiatives this Giving Blueday. Together, we can create a more inclusive, supportive environment for every student who calls our fraternity and sorority community home.

Thank you for your belief in our mission and your willingness to make a difference. Let's make this Giving Blueday a landmark moment for our CBFOs.
