Winter 2017 Achievement Expectations Report

Achievement Expectations Program
2017 Winter Academic Semester-End Report

In August of 2013, our Achievement Expectations Program (AE) was launched.  The primary goal of this program is to evaluate the performance of all our chapters, and provide a community-wide picture of what is occurring in Greek Life.  The program has seven categories (Administrative, Academic, Community Service & Philanthropy, Chapter Development, Leadership, Community Building & Campus Engagement, and Risk Management). In each category we expect all organizations to meet specific targets by completing and submitting documents regarding their chapter’s activities, and participating in community programming.  Within the seven categories, there are ten subcategories on which each organization is reviewed.

Key points and a baseline summary of the findings for Winter 2017 are as follows:

Winter 2017 Summary:

  • Three chapters (Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc., Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., and Alpha Gamma Delta) met expectations in all seven categories compared to no chapters last year.

  • Five chapters met or exceeded expectations in nine of the ten subcategories.
  • 120% increase in submissions of the online Program/Event/Project form from Winter 2016 (189 submissions) to Winter 2017 (415 submissions).

  • 62 of 65 chapters met the expectation of a chapter GPA of 2.75 or better with 50 chapters exceeding expectations with a chapter GPA of 3.20 or better.

  • Only 13 chapters met expectations in Community Service.

Key points:

  • Academically (GPA), our chapters are very successful.

  • The two categories of highest participation are Administrative and Risk Management.

  • The number of chapters meeting or exceeding expectations in each subcategory increased overall this semester compared to last semester with the exception of Academic Programming.

  • Participation varied greatly by council affiliation with Panhellenic chapters most consistently participating and meeting or exceeding expectations.

  • We believe chapters are doing many of the things outlined within the Achievement Expectations, but are simply not reporting the activities, thus creating gaps or incomplete categories – specifically in Community Service and Academic Programming.

  • We need assistance from advisors, consultants and inter/national officers to increase participation and promote the continuing establishment of healthy chapters.

This year the evaluation period was split into two semesters. A summary of the Fall 2016 Report can be found here.  Each chapter was asked to document their participation by the end of each semester. This has allowed for more effective tracking of trends half-way through the year and provided a framework for discussion when meeting with chapter leaders.
