The Achievement Expectations (AE) Program is approaching its seventh year since being launched in August of 2013. The primary goal of this program is to evaluate the performance of all our chapters, and provide a community-wide picture of what is occurring in Fraternity & Sorority Life to offer guidance for areas of potential improvement. The program has seven categories: Administrative, Academic, Community Service & Philanthropy, Chapter Development, Leadership and Personal Development, Community Building & Campus Engagement, and Risk Management. In each category, we expect all organizations to meet specific targets by completing and submitting documents regarding their chapter’s activities and by participating in community programming. Within the seven categories, there are ten subcategories on which each organization is reviewed.
Fall 2019 Summary:
- Five chapters (Chi Upsilon Sigma, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Phi Lambda, Lambda Theta Alpha, and Sigma Lambda Gamma) met expectations in all seven categories compared to four chapters in Winter 2019.
- 17 chapters met or exceeded expectations in at least eight of the ten subcategories compared to 12 chapters in Winter 2019.
- 47 of 54 chapters met the expectation of a chapter GPA of 2.75 or better with 42 chapters exceeding expectations with a chapter GPA of 3.20 or better.
- Leadership & Personal Development was the subcategory with the least number of chapters meeting or exceeding expectations (15) for the Community.
Key points:
- The average participation for the Community in majority of the subcategories increased overall this semester compared to Winter 2019 semester.
- The two categories of highest participation are Administrative and Risk Management Programming, which consists of records pertaining to each organization and membership and participating in offerings and submitting documentation that promote responsible behavior, respectively.
- Academically (GPA), overall chapters are very successful.
- Participation varied by council affiliation with Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and Panhellenic Association (Panhel) chapters on average most consistently participating and meeting or exceeding expectations.
- The two categories of lowest participation are Community Service and Community Building & Campus Engagement, which consists of participating in events and submitting documentation that promotes serving the community and promotes unity through relationship building within the campus community, respectively.
- We are requesting that organizations (headquarters, advisors, etc.) continue to talk often about the importance of the Achievement Expectations Program, in order to increase participation and promote the continuing establishment of healthy chapters. The Monthly Checklist is a beneficial resource that we encourage is used while planning to participate in the AE Program.
The evaluation period for the AE Program occurs at the end of the Fall and Winter Semesters. A list of previous reports can be found here. Each chapter was asked to document their participation by the end of each semester. This has allowed for more effective tracking of trends halfway through the year and provided a framework for discussion and guidance when meeting with chapter leaders.
