Winter 2018 Achievement Expectations Report

The Achievement Expectations (AE) Program is approaching its fifth year since its launch in August of 2013.  The primary goal of this program is to evaluate the performance of all our chapters, and provide a community-wide picture of what is occurring in Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) in order to offer guidance for areas of potential improvement.  The program has seven categories: Administrative, Academic, Community Service & Philanthropy, Chapter Development, Leadership, Community Building & Campus Engagement, and Risk Management. In each category, we expect all organizations to meet specific targets by completing and submitting documents regarding their chapter’s activities and by participating in community programming.  Within the seven categories, we review each organization ion ten subcategories.

Key points and a baseline summary of the findings for Winter 2018 are as follows:

Winter 2018 Summary:

  • Four chapters (Alpha Kappa Alpha, alpha Kappa Delta Phi, Kappa Phi Lambda, Sigma Sigma Rho) met expectations in all seven categories compared to three chapters in Winter 2017.

  • 12 chapters met or exceeded expectations in at least eight of the ten subcategories.
  • There was an increase of 36 submissions of the online Program/Event/Project Form from Fall 2017 (340 submissions) compared to Winter 2018 (376 submissions).

  • 56 of 60 chapters met the expectation of a chapter GPA of 2.75 or better with 46 chapters exceeding expectations with a chapter GPA of 3.20 or better.

  • Only 6 chapters met expectations in Community Building and Campus Engagement compared to 19 chapters in Winter 2017.

Key points:

  • The average participation for the Community in majority of the subcategories increased overall this semester compared to Winter 2017 semester.

  • Academically (GPA), our chapters are very successful.

  • The two categories of highest participation are Administrative and Risk Management Programming, which consists of records pertaining to each organization and membership and participating in offerings and reviewing documentation that promote responsible behavior, respectively.

  • Participation varied by council affiliation with Panhellenic Association (Panhel) chapters most consistently participating and meeting or exceeding expectations.

  • We are requesting that organizations continue to talk often about the importance of the Achievement Expectations Program, in order to increase participation and promote the continuing establishment of healthy chapters.

The evaluation period for the AE Program occurs at the end of the Fall and Winter Semester. A list of previous reports can be found here.  Each chapter was asked to document their participation by the end of each semester. This has allowed for more effective tracking of trends halfway through the year and provided a framework for discussion and guidance when meeting with chapter leaders.
