In the Fall of 2014 the Panhellenic Association welcomed Gamma Phi Beta into the Greek community. After the Panhellenic formal recruitment process concluded, Gamma Phi Beta began their extension efforts to recruit women into their Beta chapter here at the University of Michigan. They began their recruitment efforts with a Kick-Off Celebration in the Michigan Union where hundreds of interested women were in attendance. Resident Collegiate Leadership Consultants Bronwyn Holder and Maddy Schroeder, along with the help of national volunteers, then interviewed hundreds of women who were interested in joining their sisterhood sharing more about their philanthropic focus and values. Ultimately, Gamma Phi Beta welcomed 215 new members into their sisterhood on their October 9 bid day. Maddy Schroeder shares their excitement about the re-colonization, “Gamma Phi Beta is over the moon to be joining such a thriving Greek community and to be recolonizing our Beta Chapter at Michigan. Our more than 200 members are eager to jump right into Greek life and are excited for Gamma Phi Beta’s bright future at Michigan.” The Panhellenic community and the Greek community at-large are thrilled at this growth of membership and are excited about what this means for the future of Michigan Greek Life. Gamma Phi Beta’s return to the community is the start of a six-year extension process that the Panhellenic Association has planned to ultimately bring a total of three National Panhellenic Council sororities to campus.
