Michael Silek is a Master of Higher Education student at the University of Michigan, and serves as the accountability intern. Prior to coming to Michigan, he earned his Bachelor's from the University of Virginia, where he studied foreign affairs and Russian language.

Abriana Cardenas

Abriana is the Advisor to Culturally Based Fraternal Organizations & Community Liaison to Multicultural Initiatives. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Humanities from Michigan State University and a Master’s in Higher Education in Student Affairs from Western Michigan University. Abriana is a born and raised Michigander who enjoys crafting, working out, traveling and spending time with her fur babies, family and friends. Though she comes from “the other school”, she is very excited to join the team here at U of M bringing her passion for Greek life.

UM Announces Updated Fraternity & Sorority Life Institutional Eligibility Requirements for Fall 2023

During the 2022-2023 academic year, valued members and partners of the Michigan fraternity and sorority life community  engaged with our external consultants from RISE Partnerships to study the impacts of institutional eligibility on our community.  As a result of their extensive engagement with a variety of stakeholders, RISE Partnerships found that there was strong support for all aspects of the policy—other than the 12 post-secondary credit hour requirement.

Following the 2018 approval of City zoning regulations that impact fraternity and sorority facilities by requiring organizations maintain affiliation with the university for special permitting, several chapters within U-M’s Interfraternity Council (IFC) have expressed desire/s to disaffiliate from the university.
